-ADVERSITY-
This feminine form stands in the face of the wind that begins to blow away her harsh outer shell. As the rigidity of the rock is broken by the wind, her inner spirit is exposed spreading light and color into the atmosphere.
I created this sculpture in April and May of 2022 out of a wedding dress that I drenched in concrete. I let the dress dry on wires and then stood it back up to its original orientation. I then added copper metal leafing to the exterior of the dress and wiring that hangs off the back of the form with that same copper leafing. The copper represents the inner spirit of the feminine form standing in her power as the force of the wind breaks away her harsh outer shell of concrete that solidifies her form. The breaking down of the rock to reveal the color and shine within that flows out into the world behind her from her chest empowers her to break free in the face of the adverse wind.
Wind and power is a theme within my work. I aim to show how the inner spirit is joyful, colorful, and wild while being contained within harshness and bold exteriors. There is a flow in everything and that very flow and spirit can even break concrete with its powerful force.
I have sold this piece to a family collection and it is now displayed in their dinning room in Miami, Fl. I have included a couple photos of the final staging of the piece along with process imagery and highlights of the sculpture itself
