I created the logo and 43 oil paintings for the SE Optimist Champship Regatta. The awards highlight each fleet of Optis in the regatta. Color themes and the number of sailboats in each painting identify each award’s place number and fleet \My paintings illustrate elements of Biscayne Bay, Coconut Grove, and the Miami Skyline as associated with each fleet the paintings represent.
In the paintings, the color and representation of aspects of the race course show sailboats going around marks in various parts of the starts, reaches, upwinds, and downwinds. Mark-making and the use of bright colors emphasize the wind and energy in each piece.
The use of color corresponds to the fleet associated, such as the Red Fleet awards that showcase red and pink tones in sky and water. The same holds true for each set of paintings for Gold Fleet, Green Fleet, Blue Fleet, etc.
I am a sailor myself, and I love both sailing and the art-making process. I am majoring in Studio Art and Art History with an inter-coordinate major in Digital Computational Studies. I am a skipper on the sailing team at Bowdoin College and work as an illustrator for the Bowdoin Orient and Review. My work is influenced by my experiences growing up sailing in Miami and my love for the wind and color. I have paintings for sale and can commission artwork, so please contact me if you are interested.
